served than by Toledo, a municipality in central Spain some 70 kilometres south of Madrid. It's the capital of the province of Toledo and also the capital of the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 for its extensive cultural and monumental heritage. It was one of the ancient capitals of the Spanish Empire and place of coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Muslim cultures, although it is where the last religious persecution took place against the Jews.
