Guardamar del Segura for one: located at the mouth of the River Segura, Guardamar del Segura is one of the most popular coastal resorts. Its sandy beaches and excellent climate are the main attractions and is popular with Spanish and European travellers. Guardamar castle and old town was destroyed by an earthquake in 1829 and the town was rebuilt closer to the sea, but sand dunes constantly moving intervene on Guardamar del Segura. A tree planting project began at the end of the 19th century to anchor the sand and save the city. This beautiful tree-lined area is now two beautiful shady parks.
