Roman settlement of Tarraco, now known as Tarragona. Archaeological
excavations have revealed many exceptional buildings along with parts
of other remains. For the most part these ancient buildings have
survived beneath recent buildings if only in fragments for some of
them. When you take into consideration what the archaeologist have
uncovered so far, a picture of the grandeur of ancient Rome begins to
appear in what was their provincial capital. Due to the extent of
Roman architecture found here UNESCO declared this to be a World
Heritage Site in 2000.
