Basílica de Santa María, Elche - Spain

They say the best things in the world are free and so is entry to view this visually striking renaissance church called Basilica de Santa Maria, situate in Elche - Spain. This majestic structure which was designed based on the gothic renaissance style was initially a mosque. It was roughly between the 14th and 16th century that it caught the attention of the emperor at the time that then converted it into a church and practiced his faith ardently in it. Basilica de Santa Maria is the home of the Mystery of Elche. Mystery of Elche is an international crowd pulling tourist attraction that occurs during the month of august every year. It is a theatrical display of the journey of Virgin Mary to heaven and her coronation there. This illusion is brought about by drawing the participating actor up by ropes to the ceiling of the dome. The serenity of the structure and the Mystery of Elche does a lot to one's imagination, sending them back to times of long lost kings.
