Municipal Museum of the Mystery Play

The Elche Mystery Play is a traditional religious play that dates back to the Middle Ages. The purpose of the play is to introduce visitors to the interment, burial and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The play is performed only by amateur actors and actresses and the performances are daily throughout the year , except for Mondays when the Museum is closed. The entrance fee is three Euros per person and one Euro for seniors and students. However on Sundays the admission is free. The Museum also has two rooms, one for displays of religious artifacts and a second room which shows a documentary film once an hour on the history of the Museum and the Mystery Play itself. If the average tourist to Elche is looking for something different, stopping at the Museum Municipal de la Festa (Municipal Museum of the Mystery Play) is one good way to spend an afternoon. Holiday rentals on Elche are reasonable and can be found online .
