The Via Verde Green Route in Benicasim

The Via Verde 'Green Route' is a great place for riders as there is no traffic and makes a beautiful and scenic ride or walk up the path of an old railway. The railway line ran from Jerez de la Frontera to Almargen which was built in the late 1920's and never used. During the Civil War in Spain the railway tracks were dismantled and used as weapons. The route meanders through the valley starting from Puerto Serrano all the way through to Olvera . The route follows the Gaudalporcun and Guadelete rivers and you will cross four viaducts and thirty tunnels along the way. These routes were established by converting the unused railway lines into leisure areas for walking, cycling and horse riding. There are five old railway stations along the way and the stations Coripe, Olvera and Puerto Serrano are now used for accommodation and restaurants while the station of Peon Zaframagon is being used as an information centre that’s devoted to the Griffon Vultures colony. The last station has no use to date as is still neglected. A quick online search can find you accommodation and holiday rentals in Castellon all located near this fantastic trail .
